2014 Rotarian of the Year

2014 Honorary Rotarians (June 2014)
Shauna Yeldell (right), Chair of the Honorary Rotarians Committee of the Rotary Club of West Chester, presents plaques to newly named Honorary Rotarians Carla Messikomer and Father Al Concha. Messikomer was selected for volunteering over 20 years as a literary tutor in West Chester at the Chester County Family Academy (CCFA) and West Chester Friends School. She also developed the "Christmas in a Shoebox " program for CCFA children who need school supplies. In accepting the award, she did so on behalf of "the armies of good people who just meet a need...to make life better...please honor them all."
Father Concha was born in Ecuador and was selected because of his commitment to the health, safety and welfare of West Chester's most vulnerable residents. He is the priest for St. Agnes Parish in West Chester and serves Polish, Ukrainian, Korean and Japanese immigrants, in addition to his regular congregants. He also offers services in Spanish due to the rapid growth of Hispanic congregants. He has helped his parish begin a five year strategic plan called. "St. Agnes ALUVE."
June 2014 District Awards

Operation Warm Coat
On behalf of the E-Club Rotarians, Jane Alexander (standing) donated a $500 check to the Operation Warm project of the Rotary Club of West Chester in honor of Joe Polito (seated). Polito has chaired the project for the West Chester Club for many years, providing winter coats to thousands of Chester County youngsters
Enjoying some fresh air and exercise for our Annual Rotary Golf event, with fellow Rotarians are (from left) John Saling (our perpetual visitor from Sunrise Rotary), Debra Sparre's husband, Rob, , Bill Ronayne, Dave Barkasy, Howard Sundwall, Joe DePaoli (Dave's brother-in -law), Craig Kalemjian, Rob Feenan, Bill Winters, Shauna Yeldell, Bob Frame, Sue Casso Rogers, Steve Founds, Chris McCawley's husband, Dwight, Steve Quigley, Jake Hicks, Bob Rogers, Brett Wallace, Gary Hess and new member, Brad Abel. Dave Barkasy and Steve Quigley organized the event. They did play serious golf, but hammed it up for the photographer!
2014 Rotary Scholarships
Alison (Ali) Neilon and Karly Dahlroos (from left) were presented 2014 Rotary Scholarships by Linda Hicks, chair of the Scholarship Committee of the Rotary Club of West Chester. The young women were selected from 11 scholarship applicants for their essays detailing how their community involvement had a positive impact on them and their community. Both young women expressed a passion for helping others and giving back to their community in their essays.
Rotary at Work Day, April 2014

Board Strategic Planning November 2013
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a leadership development program run by Rotary. We recently sponsored three students to RYLA, (from left) our exchange student Yu-Hsuan (Froggy) Wei, Caitlin Brown and Mariah Park (not pictured). Speaking at a recent Rotary meeting, the girls talked about the great leadership training they got, in addition to making many new friends from throughout District 7450.
The Rotary Club of West Chester marched with sponsor DNB First in the 2013 West Chester Annual Old Fashion Holiday Parade. The float recognized returning and past veterans and their service to our country.
Thanks for another great Chili Cook Off
The sun came out and thousands enjoyed the 11th Annual West Chester Rotary Chili Cook Off.

Did you know the proceeds from the Chili Cook Off go to local charities? This year the West Chester Rotary granted $30,000 to local charities. Proceeds from the 2013 event will be granted in 2014.
Terri Ritchie (from left), Cynthia and Winnie Stroup and Tricia Johnston handed out Chili Cook Off flyers as they sold children's ride tickets to folks attending the Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square. Teams of Rotarians will be at local fairs and events to publicize our club's upcoming 11th Annual Chili Cook Off on Sunday, October 13th.
August 2013 - Our West Chester Rotary collects food donations to fill school backpacks for children to take home each weekend. We have 10 drop off locations, including at our Thursday weekly Rotary meeting held at noon at the West Chester Country Club.

Our own West Chester club member, Charles Streitwieser, was inducted as 2013-2014 District Governor of Rotary Dist. 7450 at a festive dinner and ceremony at the West Chester Golf and Country Club. Joining Charles was his wife, Leslie, father Franz Streitwieser, a Rotarian living in Florida, and his brother Erik from Jenkintown.
