One of our newest members, Arlene Adam (left), was awarded the Top Chef honor for winning the Pulled Pork Throwdown this year. She was presented the winner's medal by last year's winner, and second place finisher, Melissa Baxter, while President Bill Friedmann, supervised the event. Under the able tallying of votes by Faith Woodward, the women's entries were the favorites, followed by President Bill's tasty pork, with a tie between the succulent pulled pork prepared by Catherine Friedman and Brad Abel. The 35 or so Rotarians and a few guests enjoyed the flavorful pulled pork offerings, along with side dishes that included potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans and Arlene's seafood mac and cheese. Guests were reluctant to leave the picnic due to the lovely poolside gathering at Deb  Sparre's comfortable home, and the chance to socialize with each other. In addition to the plates piled high with delicious pulled pork and sides, the event raised about $500 for Alex's Lemonade Stand. Last year's winner was then-new member, Melissa. Does being a new member have anything to do with winning the Pulled Pork Throwdown? Or the fact that there were more women than men chef's in this year's competition?
