One of our outstanding Rotarians, Mac Neilon, was just named the 2023 Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce at its annual banquet, and presented his award by Chamber President Katie Walker! Numerous fellow Rotarians attended the banquet in his honor.
Mac, the retired small business owner of Penn Office Products, until his retirement in 2021, was well-known for his outstanding service and volunteerism throughout the West Chester borough and the larger community. For example, working with school social workers, and on behalf of our Rotary Club, he gathered and delivered school supplies for children in the West Chester Area School District for a number of years.
Mac joined the Chamber in 1987 and remained an active member until 2021 when he sold his business. Throughout his membership he served the chamber as board president in 2001, and served on a number of committees during his chamber years. The one with the biggest effort, he says, was as President of the Iron Hill Twilight Criterium, a subsidiary of the Chamber, a position he held for 5 years!
In addition to his chamber volunteering, Mac is well known among members of our Rotary Club as our Community Service chair. He recruits members year around for service projects, such as organizing Rotarians at Work days, the annual Marshall Square Park clean-up/mulching, tree planting, and more recently Project C.U.R.E., helping package up donated medical supplies for under-resourced people around the world. He has worked tirelessly with our fundraisers through the years, such as our Holiday Flowers sale, Fruit Sale, Chili Cook-off, and is a regular volunteer at the Community Warehouse in Chester County.
Whether working full time or now retired, Mac is not only an outstanding citizen and volunteer, as proclaimed by the Chamber, but an outstanding Rotarian who we are proud to work with and claim as our own!
